HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL!

Ed's big wham bam is on Much right now. He's got a "student panel" of four people ripping on pop culture and stuff. Which in itself is fine, it's their actual debating which I took notice of. It's the same old tired spiel, "The big media corporate giants, they force this britney spears junk on kids, the kids, they don't have a chance to think for themselves" or "executives decide what music is popular, so kids are forced to think oh, this is what's popular now, this is what I have to buy."

So in other words, they said nothing that hasn't been said over and over again by the "true" fans of music. You know the ones - the ones who say "hmm, that's a nice song...but I can't like it, it's too mainstream for me" or the ones who are all "I'm in it for the MUSIC man, I don't go an support all these EVIL corporate giants pushing THEIR music man, I show 'em, I don't buy their BRAND NAME stuff, I go buy my shirts at Wal-Mart man, or screw that, that's still money going into THEIR HANDS man, I dig through dumpsters and go to the salvation army cause I'm a true fan, man." These people irritate me so much. I mean, it's one thing to support the "non-pop" artists, sure, but they have that annoying superior, haughty attitude towards anyone that isn't as dedicated as them. (often marked by "feh" sayings or sneer of contempt at "mainstream" music, so I've found).

Nothing too significant to write of as of late. Except the fact that Matt Silver, a cool guy I met in Journalism this year, decided to give me some space on his site, cooltrap.com - cool! So that night I uploaded the Space Cowboy and Iron Maiden/Transformers music videos, and made them available for download again on animemusicvideos.org, and went to sleep. Next morning, cooltrap.com had exceeded its allowed bandwidth - something which has never happened before, Matt tells me - because the videos were downloaded approximately 150 times. And they ain't small - Space Cowboy is 30 mb, Iron Maiden is 57 mb(!). So they were taken down once again as Matt tries to figure out how he's going to work this.

After I tried Mario Sunshine at Future Shop a few weeks back, I had to have it. I loved Mario for the 64, and this one is the same formula, only better. So me and Jamie decided to split on a Gamecube. So far it's definitely lived up to expectations. And then there's Kingdom Hearts. Have you heard of this? It's for PS2, made by Squaresoft, makers of the Final Fantasy series. Their newest epic game. Only twist with this one is they have a partner, DISNEY! Disney! For example, Donald Duck is a magician and Goofy is a knight fighting alongside Final Fantasy-style characters. It's a great combination.

And now to Visions.

Their salespeople are VULTURES and I swear, they must train to be able to constantly spew out such ungodly amounts of shameless self-promotion. Listen buddy, I already bought this camera; I don't need to know what the original market price was for it (especially since I already KNOW because I've been FOLLOWING IT and the price you quoted me was WRONG WRONG WRONG!), I don't need to know how it's not your fault, how it was Sony's, not Visions. I only need to know what you're going to do to solve this.

The problem is that I purchased a digital camera from them a while back. In their ad it says "BONUS FIVE FREE CD-RWS" but it was only packaged with CD-RS instead. But every Visions person I've approached denies responsibility, saying "Oh no, it's not our fault, that's straight from Sony. It's their fault." And then basically refuse to do anything for me. Assholes. Especially since a week later they advertised the camera again, with the SAME "Bonus Five Free CD-RWS" blurb.

"Can I get these (dumps a big handful of pennies on the counter) turned into silver?"

This is what some shifty-looking cab driver said in the Overwaitea gas station today. I was at the counter waiting for the Interac machine to beep with approval when this guy came up beside me.

It was last night, as I lay in bed trying in vain to fall asleep, that I arrived at the following conclusion. I must be insane. At least partially.

You know how those monk-ish people are always "Clear your mind, picture nothing, or an empty blue sky" or something to that effect? I tried doing that when I was trying to fall asleep, with absolutely NO success. There is just simply always, always a barrage of images, thoughts and people flitting randomly through my mind. I've always found it slightly hard to actually concentrate on singular tasks without getting distracted by the weirdest things. It's like you're having one of those chaotic dreams that doesn't make any sense, only it's going on while you're trying to interpret and listen to things that DO make sense. :P

Wanna check out the new video I'm making? Footage: Cowboy Bebop, Song: Blackbird by Sarah Maclachlin. You can download it here. Just ignore the two dumb banner ads and right click/save as on the "Movie" link.

Stopped by work after school today to cancel my vacation day Saturday (might as well not waste them) and visited for a while with Erin, Matt, Kristina and Claire, who I don't really see anymore due to not working their shift. Unfortunately Allison wasn't there, so I couldn't check and see if there was any news on a revamped schedule.

This guy in my Journalism class today is new in town, he's from Victoria, so after class I was showing him the lab here. When I told him that students had to bring their own mouse to use, that there weren't mice provided because they got stolen, he laughed, not believing me. Sadly enough though, it's true - you don't get a mouse. Instead you can use the keypad to move the cursor around. Since the only times I use the lab are to kill time or quickly type up something that needs to be printed immediately, it doesn't really affect me. So I never realized how silly that sounds until today.

Starting fresh. Last night answered a lot of questions, though it did make me realize that I'm just too damn concerned about people. Take last night for example. Honestly, what would have happened if I hadn't first offered to help look for [missing person], let alone find where they'd gone, let alone actually go and FIND them as well? The comment in passing "He's, he's...well...*grimace*" didn't help. But if they brought it upon themselves, should I just say "hell with it" and let them get themselves out of their self-dug hole? Truth be told, I know I'd never forgive myself. It's the same rant and questions I ask myself every time this happens. Ah well. It's been awhile since I've had a slow burn like that though. At least running around the park, even if the reason I was running around wasn't cool at all, was refreshing.
